Harrison School District Two Parents of Gifted and Talented Blog: Harrison School District Two Gifted and Talented S...
Harrison School District Two Parents of Gifted and Talented Blog: Harrison School District Two Gifted and Talented S...: Hello parents of gifted students in Harrison I am Erika Tunson and I am the new Elementary Gifted and Talented Coordinator. I am going to be updating the blog monthly. I have already updated the student blog and I accidentally published it to the parent blog as well. Oh well, now you know what your students are doing on the blog this month! This month I will provide a topic, but I would like you to post some topics you may want to explore. This month the topic; If money were no object(but it is the largest object in education), what would you like to see added to your gifted child's classroom, school or educational experience?

I would like to see more technology evenly distributed throughout the district. Some middle schools have i-pads and others don't have wireless internet.
ReplyDeleteWhat schools have ipads? Are they in Harrison?
DeleteHow about one teacher dedicated to just the gifted students?
ReplyDeleteI would want a teacher who is an expert in each content area
DeleteI agree. Especially when they hit high school. I can tell when a teach has a masters degree in the area they teach. The knowledge level is just higher.
DeleteMore opportunities for field trips to learn outside of school.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fabulous to have "kendals" (if that's what they're called) so gifted students wouldn't have to lug around the heavy textbooks. My child will have back problems by the time she's finished with high school
ReplyDeleteCan you have classes for parents of gifted children. I need help. She's too smart for me.
ReplyDeleteNot just classes for parents, but teachers too. My son's fourth grade teacher knew gifted children, but his fifth grade teacher doesn't get it.
ReplyDeleteTo: Elementary Mom. I've had good experiences with teachers. Have you spoken to the building principal?
ReplyDeleteI would love to see more field trips to expand the learning experiences. However, how would that be able to occur with the other non-gt classes? Saturday field trips possibly? We already ask a lot of our teachers....how could we accomplish this ???
ReplyDeleteGina: I work in D-11, but my children go to D-2. I would sponsor a field trip once every two months on a Saturday. Any more would be too much on me as a teacher. Spread the responsibility and I could and would do it. I'm sure it would be the same in this district.
DeleteI would be happy to help out with Saturday/evening field trips for our GT kids, as well, especially at the elementary level. Music, plays, lectures, art exhibits - there's lots of things at Colorado College and UCCS that our kids would be interested in, I think. I'd be open to recommendations from teachers as to what trips they'd recommend. I'm thinking a couple times a year.
DeleteI wish all students had an ipad. I did not know some schools did not have wireless, that should be the first priority.
ReplyDeleteI am happy that students are going to UCCS for some field trips. This experience will broaden their view and give them a sampling of college life.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the UCCS trips are wonderful experiences for our children.
DeleteIf money were no object I would want more specialized classes that included field trips, real life experiences, improved technology and opportunites to interact and dialogue with students around the world.
